Are you ready to see some of our favorite mountain home decor items?!
I’ve been shopping like crazy over the last few months for the perfect decor for our Wintergreen, VA vacation rental. I finally had a chance to start laying out our purchases and I’m loving the aesthetic! I had a vision from the start for a completely neutral color pallet with pops of green throughout to give a clean and cozy feel …and I think we’ve nailed it.
For our renovation, we selected Sherwin Williams ‘Snowbound’ white paint throughout the home, Roswell Hickory LVP, and matte black windows, exterior doors, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry hardware, door handles, and lighting.
We gutted pretty much the entire home during our renovation process, but we wanted to preserve some of the original character like our stunning floor to ceiling stone fireplace.
It really makes a statement in our living room and gives a cozy mountain house feel. Our furniture consists of a mix of natural materials, industrial touches, and mountain charm. For example, we’ve selected cowhide rugs and chairs, wood slice coffee tables, camel leather dining chairs and stools, tan woven lounge chairs, dark wood tone dining table and solid oak finish beds.
So, I wanted to keep the interior design consistent with our furniture selections by choosing neutrals, subtle prints, and a blend of textures for our home decor selections. My design style goal was “modern farmhouse” with a touch of rustic flare.
So, let me show you what we have!
Let’s start with these super cute faux eucalyptus plants I found at Target. This is the exact pop of greenery I was looking for and we plan to put these on all of our bathroom vanities as accent pieces. I think they convey a clean and earthy vibe.
Speaking of Target, I hit the jackpot with their dollar section a while back and found a ton of mountain decor like these signs, mini ski shoes, and a mini ski lift!!
I always keep my eye out when I’m running errands or shopping online for anything that screams dream mountain cabin & I feel like my Pinterest pins are constantly top of mind. My frequent trips to Target and Costco are always fair game for decor purchases.
The majority of my Costco finds are already at our rental home but as you can see, I loaded up!
Wait until the big reveal & I’ll share all of my Costco finds…oooh they’re so good!
Juston & I have developed a new obsession…antique shopping!!! Some of our favorite Wintergreen finds have been from local antique shops.
Spoiler alert: the Bison skull came home with us!
We are going to strategically place it in the home so that it draws in the eyes of our guests as soon as they walk in the door. We also found deer antlers that will be coffee table or console table accent pieces. Both of these are unique decor touches that will make our home so special.
Another one of our favorite finds that is already in Wintergreen is an antique Singer console table. It has the original cast iron base of an old Singer sewing machine with an oak wood table top.
It’s to die for!
The only item we kept that came with the home was a vintage baby grand piano! As soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew it would be a differentiator for our rental and leave an impression with our guests.
We’ve made it the statement piece in our “Instagram room.” We’re adding an accent wall to the left with boxwood greenery and a fun sign with our house name “Skyview Villa,” to give a fun photo op space in the home.
I see a lot of photos happening here in the future!
This design process has certainly been a team effort. Juston & I discovered that we have an eye for refurbishing old items and bringing them new life.
We’ve been brushing up on our DIY skills and are going to frame hymnal sheets to create unique wall art, make a sign using wine corks we’ve been collecting, and we just recently spray painted this old typewriter we found at an antique shop for a more modern look.
Learn more about this project in our DIY Typewriter Makeover Project blog!
That’s a wrap on the sneak peek of our mountain house decor. I can’t wait to stage everything, put my final touches, and bring my vision to life. We will be sharing our completed vacation rental home so stay tuned for the big reveal!
