Finding the perfect short-term rental home may seem like a daunting task in today’s market, but trust us. It’s possible. Perhaps you’re thinking about kicking off your new Airbnb or VRBO venture as a newbie, or, maybe you’re a pro who is sizing up your portfolio. Either way, you will likely face the “I just closed, what now?!” phase.
While some homes convey furniture and other living essentials with the purchase of the home, many do not. Landing a move-in ready rental home is ideal for some hosts. But, let’s be honest, it is fun to be able to put your own spin on the design and aesthetic of your space.
Our team at The Next Stop Collective has faced many of these scenarios. From blank canvas homes, to previous owners leaving every last item from their 1980’s collection (yikes), we’ve seen it all. No matter the scenario, we always shop at our top 5 favorite stores to bring our rental homes to life.
COSTCO
A short-term investment owner’s dream come true. If you’re not already a wholesale club member, do it. We are proud to be those people with three carts full of items at our local Costco. Towels, pillows, pots and pans, kitchen essentials, the list goes on and on. Always start with wholesale stores before you shop around.
TARGET
I mean who doesn’t love a Target run, am I right? Although roaming Target is very high on my favorite pastime list, they truly do have trendy home essentials that fit every style at great prices. Some of our favorites? Bedding, home decor accents, and all things Threshold, Hearth & Hand, and Studio McGee.
AMAZON
We can’t live without Amazon. We’re guilty for “priming” any and everything for personal reasons, but we also love Amazon for our rental homes. Light fixtures, trash cans, outdoor rugs, you name it. Also, when something breaks or gets damaged, and believe me, it will. Amazon to the rescue. Can’t beat the quick shipping! Not sure where to start? We’ve simplified your shopping experience by compiling all of our favorites in our Amazon Storefront.
POTTERY BARN/CB2
These may come as a shock, but hear us out. A common misconception is that short-term hosts should incorporate cheap furniture items for rentals because guests will destroy everything eventually. False. While there are some items that are perfectly fine to purchase at a discount, major furniture isn’t one of them. Find quality items such as couches and beds that will withstand the test of time. You’ll have plenty to assemble, so the delivery and assembly is also a huge perk.
LOWE’S HOME IMPROVEMENT
A true necessity. We dare you to buy a new home and not need something from Lowe’s. It’s inevitable. From paint, to door locks, to outdoor furniture and grills, we always find ourselves placing an order with Lowe’s Home Improvement for the final touches.
These aren’t the only stores we utilize, but they certainly encompass most of the key items that make our rental homes complete. Once you find your favorite stores and items, it makes the stocking process even easier.
